Description

On Friday the 6th of March we'll have our next GESA Doctoral Network meeting. The meeting will once again be in the 6th floor common room of the Chrystal Macmillan Building, and will run from 4-6pm.

Similar to February's meeting, we'll have two short presentations by members of the network. This month we'll focus on how to engage different social groups with climate change adaptation and activism.

Young Hwa is a PhD student in the school of Geosciences. Her research focuses on how vulnerable groups are defined and encountered in the context of reducing risks and strengthening resilience as part of emerging climate change adaptation, and how different stakeholders understand different levels and types of social vulnerability.

The second presentation will be given by Alice Hague, whose PhD is an interdisciplinary research project across the School of Social and Political Science and the School of Divinity. Her presentation - "Caring for the Future through the Past: faith-based climate activism" - will focus on the engagement of faith-based communities in environmental issues.

Afterwards we will have a discussion on how different disciplines approach some of the issues discussed in the presentations. This should be an interesting discussion for all, and provides an opportunity for everyone to consider how they and their discipline approaches research and how this relates to others within the network.
